Hi friend! I’m Jessie, the momma behind The Suburban Mermaid.
I’m happy that you’re here!
A little about me – I’m a first time mom to Jojo (currently 10 months old) and wife to Jay. Jay is an experienced sailor, racing sailboats in college at Hobart and teaching others how to sail on Martha’s Vineyard. As of writing this, I currently know nothing about sailing except for what I’ve seen on Bravo’s Below Deck – so I know absolutely nothing about sailing.
There’s two things that I do know however – 1. I want the opportunity to show Jojo all parts of the world and this may be our family’s way of doing that, 2. Jay has had a lifelong dream that one day when he had a family of his own, that he would circumnavigate the globe with them – and I desperately want to help make that happen for him.
We are not rich by any means – we are selling our home in Atlanta and downsizing. We are getting a free fixer-upper sailboat. We will need to continue to work remotely to pay our bills. This adventure will have its sacrifices for sure.
I’m sharing all of our adventures along the way, in hopes of inspiring others who dream this dream, to laugh at our mistakes, and to help share what I learn about raising children by the water, along the way.
I can’t wait to share my stories of motherhood by the water, and hope that you drift in from time to time, no matter what type of water you find your kids next to- whether it be poolside, beachside, or dockside!
